For October I am participating in the 30-Day Sitting and Rising Coach4aday Challenge. That means I am doing a number of exercises involving CHAIRS.

Each morning this month one of the first habits is a series of exercises sitting and getting up out of a CHAIR without using my arms. As I progress, I will move to sitting and rising off the floor. At this stage of the challenge, I’m not there yet I have to rely on the chair. Exercising is not the only use of this piece of furniture for me many mornings. They have another purpose that I adopted from a book by Bob Beaudine.

Takeaways from the book Two Chairs

Two Chairs was published in 2016 and authored by Bob Beaudine. This book can be described as a spiritual approach to talking to God each morning. For that conversation is part of my habit of morning prayer and devotion. The concept is to set up Two Chairs facing each other. One is for me and the second is the imaginary seat that God is occupying.

Once we are both seated my morning ritual is to have a conversation with God beginning with three questions directed at him.

  1. Does God know my situation? Yes!
  2. Is my situation too hard for Him? No!
  3. Does God have a good plan for me? Yes!

After the questions it is time to be still and listen.

Having extra CHAIRS in a household is important when you have a guest arrive. Each morning I get to have a conversation with someone using one of those CHAIRS. The habit of sitting still and listening to God’s voice helps each day get off to a start filled with hope and optimism.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
