This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has provided the prompt of User Choice.

It has been about 6 weeks since I participated in this weekly adventure. Several followers of this blog inquired if I would pick it back up and I promised them I would. So as Frank Constanza said “I’m Back Baby”

Please consider carving out time to read the posts of other bloggers who responded to this music challenge. You will hopefully discover new songs, revisit an old favorite and it is quite possibly learning something interesting.

Louisiana Women-Mississippi Man

This past week an iconic figure from the world of country music died. Loretta Lynn was 90 years old when she passed away on October 4, 2022. She made her birthplace Butcher Hollow KY famous in her song Coal Miner’s Daughter. That song begins with the lyrics below:

Well, I was born’d a coal miner’s daughter. In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler.

My song this week is to honor the legacy of Loretta Lynn. I have chosen Louisiana Women-Mississippi Man which was a duet she sang with Conway Twitty whose given name was Harold Lloyd Jenkins. Music for this song has a strong Cajun theme and was written by Nashville singer-songwriters Becki Bluefield and Jim Owen.

Twitty and Lynn were not romantically involved but were a super professional recording duo. Together they put out 11 albums that produced 5 #1 Country hits.

Lyrics

Hey Louisiana woman Mississippi man we get together every time we can
The Mississippi River can keep us apart
There’s too much love in the Mississippi heart too much love in this Louisiana heart
See the alligators all a waitin’ nearby soon or later they know I’m gonna try
When she waves from the bank don’t you know I know
It’s goodbye fishin’ line see you while ago
With a Louisiana woman waitin’ on the other side
The Mississippi River don’t look so wide
Louisiana woman Mississippi man…
Well I thought I’d been loved but I never had
Till I was wrapped In the arms of a Mississippi man
When he holds me close it feels almost like another hurricane just ripped the coast
If he can’t come to me I’m gonna go to him
That Mississippi River Lord I’m gonna swim
Hey Louisiana woman Mississippi man…
Well Mississippi River Lord it’s one mile wide and I gotta get me to the other side
Mississippi man I’m losin’ my mind gotta have your loving one more time
I’m gonna jump in the river and here go too bad alligatior you swim too slow
Hey Louisiana woman Mississippi man…
There’s too much love in the Mississippi heart too much love in this Louisiana heart
There’s too much love in the Mississippi heart too much love in this Louisiana heart
