August 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Architectural Coach4aday Challenge each day, we will define an architectural term and provide examples of where it is located. This challenge will let observation, travel, history, and photography all intersect. For Day 12 is MOLDING.

One way to think about molding is that they serve as the decorations for architects. The same shapes, curves, and bands can show up anywhere. In my 1910 home that is very evident with the same wooden trim pieces being utilized around doors, windows, and walls. There is no telling how many board feet were utilized in our home.
