Many mornings when I begin writing my daily post I struggle to find the right word to frame my thoughts. Today I wrestled with the two words; adding and contributing but eventually settled on the word PROVIDE.

The best one word definition I can offer up for PROVIDE is to “supply.”

I believe leaders need to supply or PROVIDE value to others. My post today is on that concept of how do we serve others by making sure they feel valued. Here are some examples:

• When you make a decision have the other persons best interest in mind not just yours.
•  Brag on them to others-this can be done in front of them or when they are not present-but look for ways to praise others.
• Look for ways to help people network or PROVIDE them the opportunity to meet people that can help them professionally. Be a person who connects others.
• Aproach every relationship with what can you do to help them versus what can they do to help you.
• Believe that they can become better than they are today. Have high expectations on what type of leader people can grow into.
• Use the person’s name in a conversation.
• Ask them to explain or show you how to complete a task. Make them be the expert.

One final thought on how to add value to others comes from a John Maxwell book I read called “25 Ways to Win with People”. That the best leaders convince people to go beyond

“their comfort zone but not outside their gift zone”

The people we encounter all PROVIDE us an opportunity to supply them with value. Helping people elevate their self-esteem doesn’t require a Ph.D. it just requires the correct attitude.
