#Modify October 29

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

One of the many things in life that gets me excited is learning about someone who decides to take on a challenge. Often times a challenge will seem quite impossible unless you take steps to MODIFY it.

Jeff Neelon and Merle Summers are two people I want to brag on for having goals and if necessary MODIFYING them.

Jeff Neelon is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet. He has a large and eclectic group of friends that I am proud to be part of.

(L-R) Jeff Neelon and Dan Kenney February 2020

Jeff’s circle of influence is so large because he knows how to be a fantastic friend. He has many roles in his life and in each one he understands how to serve others.

Jeff since 1977 has completed no less than five (5) road races every year. That is a streak of 43 years. It has included marathons, mud runs, 10 K, and 5K races. The pandemic has eliminated just about every race. So Jeff decided to MODIFY and run his five races in 2020 virtually.

He has entered the Mighty Mississippi River Distance Challenge, The Big Papi 5K, and Alps to Ocean Challenge. He did not let the pandemic stop him he just MODIFIED his method.

Another leader and friend I admire is Merle Summers. He has had a fabulous career as an educator. More than just a teacher Merle has mentored hundreds of students and colleagues.

Merle turned 80 yesterday. If you live in Lumberton he is admired by many because he is such a fantastic servant leader,

Merle Summers one of Lumberton NC nicest leaders

Merle wanted to do something special to celebrate his 80th Birthday. He decided he would complete a marathon. A marathon is 26.2 miles in length. Merle realized that a decision made in September 2020 to complete a marathon in 30 Days was going to require some MODIFICATIONS. He didn’t give in to the obstacles but found a way to navigate them.

Merle decided to walk the 26.2 miles required to complete a marathon and do it over 16 days. He MODIFIED the goal. He began by walking 1.54 miles on September 21st and on Monday October 26th two days before he turned 80 he crossed the finish line. I want to say it loud and I want to say it proud-Merle completed a marathon. Somebody get that man a T-Shirt and 26.2 mile decal for his car.

Don’t let an excuse stop you go MODIFY your goal.
