For Day 9 of the 30-Day Ingredient Coach4aday Challenge I am determining what GOLF BALLS are constructed of.

Apologize to Jaclyn Donovan who did a Facebook post on this thread last week. I write my drafts 7-10 days out and I already had this done. Traveling this weekend so hard to find time to create a new and unique post. All I can do is yell FORE!

Summer mornings find me on the golf course 5 days a week on average. I spend time hitting GOLF BALLS. There are many brands and colors. My curiosity took me to researching just what are modern day golf balls made of.

Golf Ball Materials

Golf is an old game and technology has improved so many aspects of the game from clubs, course maintenance, and of course the ball.

Most golf historians point to four stages of development related to the golf ball:

  1. Wooden Golf Balls-might be questionable
  2. Feathery Golf Balls -Feathers stuffed in leather
  3. Gutta Percha Golf ball-created from the sap of Sapodilla Tree
  4. Rubber Core Golf Ball

Today almost all the golf balls you can purchase contain a rubber core.

The first Rubber Core ball was invented in 1898 by Coburn Haskell in association with the BF Goodrich Company. It was a solid rubber core, high tension rubber thread wrapped around the core, and a Gutta Percha cover.
