It took me two days but I listened to a fabulous podcast by Tim Ferris. In that podcast I learned about what you need if you have a idea or dream. The FORMULA comes in quite handy when you share that idea or dream with someone and meet resistance.

The Tim Ferris Podcast I learned about this FORMULA featured Joe Gebbia who is one of the co- founders of Airbnb

Joe Gebbia

I am fascinated by the long interview format that Tim Ferris employs on his podcasts. Many run over 2 hours in length but you get a feel for what leadership lessons his guests can offer up. That was the case in learning about the FORMULA.

Joe Gebbia like many of Tim’s guests had a background in sports. Not necessarily professional but they played in high school or college and it influenced them. Sports taught Joe many life lessons including challenging yourself. He participated in many sports including basketball and he even started a college team while a student at Rhode Island School of Design.

Joe attended Brookwood HS which is part of the Gwinnett County Public School System which is Georgia’s largest school district. His senior year he pulled off one of the greatest senior class pranks I have ever heard of. You owe to yourself to listen to the podcast to hear all about. Just priceless.

Joe Gebbia story is full of grit, persistence, rejection, and constant questioning on how to do things better. He shared with Tim a FORMULA he follows with his ideas and dreams. He learned it sneaking in to an Entrepreneurship Seminar at Brown University.

The FORMULA for ideas and dreams is this :

It can be read like this – SOME WILL LOVE IT & SOME WON’T plus WHO CARES equals MOVE ON.

We all need a FORMULA that lets us reframe defeat, rejection, and disappointment into an invitation to keep moving forward. We all need a FORMULA that provides us hope, faith, and belief in ourselves.
