A&M Records put out a greatest hits album for JOE Cocker in 1987 called Classics Volume 4. That is the album I listened to for today’s contribution in the 30 Day Album #Coach4adayChallenge.

JOE Cocker was born in 1944 and achieved fame as a bluesy rock and roll singer characterized by his gritty voice and peculiar body movements. I learned a lot about this singer by viewing a documentary on his life called “JOE Cocker: Mad Dog with Soul”. That movie let me realize that at age 25 he was pretty much an unknown in the USA as a musician in 1969 Appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and Woodstock took place in 1969. Those appearances led him to have the opportunity to tour the USA the next year.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen” tour of America in 1970 made him one of the world’s leading blues-rock singers. That same year, Cocker’s cover of the Box Tops’ hit single “The Letter” became his first top 10 hit in the US. Joe Cocker covered a lot of other artists songs.

This album doesn’t touch on all the hits JOE Cocker has recorded. If you like to see a list here are 12 of his best. Of that list of 12 you can hear five on Classics Vol. 4.

Discography

Leave you with a JOE Cocker appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1969. Dig those bell bottoms, mini-skirts, headbands, and Go-Go dancers.

Hope you are “Feeling Alright” after listening to this album.
