There are many talented artists that died young because of addiction. AMY Winehouse belongs on that list dying at the age of 27. Despite her personal demons when it came to music she was treasure. Today for the 30 Day Album #Coach4adayChallenge I am listening to her studio recording called “Back To Black”

Back to Black” won a Grammy in 2006 for “Best Album of the Year”. Stumbling across multiple articles I discovered a piece written in 2019 The Guardian written by Alexis Petridas where he argues that it is the best album of the 21st Century. You can read that lengthy piece here.

There is much consensus that the album is centered AMY’s on-again, off-again relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil.

AMY Winehouse’s personal choices were troubling to me but her talent as a singer and performer captivated me. This album is only 37 minutes long but it packs a punch. Trying to describe her style is left to more talented writers but I recognized it fantastic.

Discography

Not sure if one set of lyrics can capture how well an album talks about personal relationship but AMY comes real close with the lines below from the title track.

“We only said goodbye with words/ I died a hundred times/ You go back to her/ And I go back to black”
