October 30th Topic

At the present time I am doing an Executive Search for a client. Each interaction with candidates I strongly suggest that they consider what I refer to as the 5 F’s. One of those five is FIT.

Geoff Smart in his book “WHO: The A Method for Hiring” discussed those 5 F’s. I define fit to potential leaders my clients may eventually hire as this. What do you do exceptionally well professionally and what do you enjoy doing professionally? Our work needs to scratch that itch.

When we spend all of our time doing what we do not enjoy and what we are not good at it we become disenchanted. Pat Lencioni in his book “The 6 Working Types of Genius” states we all have two types of genius, two types of competencies, and two types of work that cause us frustration.

Those six include Wonder, Inventive, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity.

If the majority of what type of work, we are asked is frustrating it is pretty obvious it is not a good fit.

Leaders need to do two things in selecting a team-Get the right people on their bus and then assign them a seat. Team players need to get on the right bus.”
