For March 2024 several of us will be participating in the “30-Day Shout-Out Coach4aday Challenge”. Today the recipient is my COUSINS.
First cousins are a great part of any family dynamic. In some ways our first cousins become our first set of real friends depending on the family. As I grew up as a child staying connected to my cousins on my mom’s side of the family (she was the youngest of 6) was very strong. I am very lucky that I have great first cousins that all have connections to Lynch name.
Here is a photo of just a few of my cousins and siblings.

March 14th-Cousins
Understanding genealogy is not always easy to comprehend. Relationships between cousins can fall into that category.
If your first cousin has a child that child is a first cousin once removed. If you have a child and your first cousin has a child those two are second cousins.
Third cousins are relatives who share a common great-great-grandparent, which is four generations away from both individuals. Through mathematical deduction, we ascertain that, on average, we possess approximately 190 third cousins, assuming each family typically has 2-3 children. The number of third cousins can greatly vary based on the size of our common ancestor’s family so for me it probably stands close to 250-300.
To summarize in familial terms, first cousins have a shared grandparent (2 generations), second cousins are connected through a great-grandparent (3 generations), and third cousins share a great-great-grandparent.
