Today the theme for the 30-Day Podcast Coach4aday Challenge is BOOKS.

When it comes to BOOKS there are no shortage of podcasts covering that topic. Shuffling thru the Spotify search engine I decided to listen to the The Book Review Podcast which is produced by the NY Times. The New York Times Book Review began in 2006, and its entire archive is available online to listen to.

Day 11 Podcast-The Book Review

The episode I choose to listen to was first aired on March 11, 2022 and is titled “How People First Arrived in America”. The guest was Jennifer Raff who is a researcher at the University of Kansas. Her title is Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology but her area of expertise might be defined as anthropological genetics. She has authored a book that was part of the episode titled Origin: A Genetic History of the Americas

Her book takes a look on how people really got to the Americas.

It challenges the theory that people from Siberia got to Alaska over a land bridge. She takes another approach using genetics. Part of her conversation was centered on “Clovis People“. Her work with genetics has given historians pause on how people got to the Americas. People were in the America’s 16,000-17,000 years ago. She also brings up footprints found in the White Sands of New Mexico that may provide controversial evidence that people were in the Americas earlier than thought.
