Keeping your body healthy and fit thru diet, exercise and rest is accepted by many. Yet, how to maintain a healthy MIND seems to be more alusive.

Reading poetry this month for the 30-Day Poetry Coach4aday Challenge has reinforced the concept that our brains need a healthy regime also. Indulging in reading prose has reinforced positive energy for me each day. In recent years researchers have studied the effects of poetry on the MIND. Using fMRI they have concluded that our brains are in fact hard wired to differentiate between regular speech and prose. Humans have the capability to process the rhymes and rhythms of poetry.

Today I decided to read “A Quiet Mind” by Thomas Vaux. If you want to read it, you can locate it at this link. This piece of poetry is not long but the closing lines really resonated with me.

The sweetest time in all my life
To deem in thinking spent.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
