In February I went to visit my brother Tom in Maine who was battling lung cancer. He died in June and on Monday his family and friends celebrated his life with a graveside memorial. So I was in Maine the early part of this week.

There was lots of snow on the ground when I visited in February. The white blanket altered many of the VIEWS I had grown accustomed to from previous spring/summer visits. The VIEW in the winter took on a different appearance.

For instance on Point Rd.  in Belgrade in the summer I could VIEW Great Pond. The winter blowing snow and lack of contrast made it hard for me to see it in February. On Monday evening I drove to this same spot and could see the water.

When I go to visit in Maine one of my favorite VIEWS is from the putting green at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club. From there you have an elevated VIEW of both Great Pond and Long Pond.

When I was there in February the entrance to the course was gated and the road leading into it had not been plowed. With some 30 inches of snow on the ground it was off limits. I vowed on my next trip I would get up to the clubhouse and take in the view. Was hoping against hope that my brother would join me.

Another factor in a changed VIEW has nothing to do with the weather. In 2012 all 6 of the Kenney siblings were still alive as we attended a wedding. We took lots of pictures on that putting green at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club including the two below.

My sister Bridget Kenney Murphy is on far left in first photo and she died at the age of 60 from Multiple Myeloma in 2015. The second photo depicts my brother Tom and I in the back row standing next to each other.

I went to that same spot on Monday and took in the VIEW you can see in the background of those photos.  It was still beautiful but it was better in 2012 because of who I was with.
