Tonight technically tomorrow morning (Sat Sept 14th) at 12:33 a.m. (EDT) we will see a Full MOON. This is called a Harvest MOON.

If you live in the US in the Central, Mountain, or Pacific Time zone you actually get to see this on Friday the 13th. Some people are superstitious about full moons on Friday the 13th. To me a full MOON is beautiful not spooky.

Harvest Moon

A Harvest MOON is when it appears closest to the autumnal equinox. According to Farmers’ Almanac this combination of a Harvest MOON is a once-in-a-20-year occurrence, so our next chance will not be in the U.S. until August 13, 2049.

The last three times this occurred was in 1984, 1987, and 2000.

Here is a time lapse video

Nature brings us many wonderful sights but some only occur on an infrequent basis.
