#TED June 1

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Today begins another 30 Day Challenge. For June I am going to attempt to watch one TED Talk each day. Maybe, just maybe my world will improve by listening, reflecting, and considering the views of others.

The essence of TED Talks is to spread ideas. TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who want to better understand the world we live in. They record videos of the talks and encourage others to watch.

TED Talks

Many TED Talks are only 12-20 minutes long so it is not a gigantic time commitment but I have to be consistent. The biggest factor in completing a 30 Day Challenge is your personal integrity. The challenge is not about besting others but improving yourself.

Don’t get me wrong I would love some 30 Day Challenge accountability partners but not to compete but to share a journey. I am happy to report that Jeff Neelon and Tina Bullard two previous 30 Day Challenge partners are all in on TED Talks for June.

If you want to join them this month just leave me a comment. We can all learn about new ideas together.

I watched my first TED Talk before writing this post. The talk was given by Robert Waldinger and was titled What Makes a Good Life?

Robert is a Harvard psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and Zen priest. He also is the director of the longest continuous study on adult life. Since 1945 Harvard has tracked the lives of 724 men the research had a name Harvard Study of Adult Development. There are still a number of them still alive in their 90’s.

Harvard over the years also added the 2,000 children of these 724 men to try and learn what makes up a good life. In the TED Talk you gain glimpses of what has surfaced.

I am going to repeat what Dr. Waldinger says is the biggest lesson learned about a good life.

Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Period.

What Makes A Good Life?

So watching my first TED Talk provided me with a compelling conclusion.

I am happy and healthy because of my wife, my family, and my friends. Period.

That is an idea I want to share with others which allows this 30 Day Challenge to get off to a great start.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
