We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has given us the weekly prompt electronic communication devices (pagers, iPhone, Android, fax machine, computer, TV.

The goal is to take the prompt and profile a song that has it part of its lyrics or title.

Please consider carving out time to read the posts of other bloggers who responded to the Song Lyric Sunday challenge.

Rules of Song Lyric Sunday

Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.  Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

Hey, Western Union Man

When it comes to electronic communications the first and most widely used in its day was the telegraph. Sending a telegram was a way to a get point-to-point message to someone. It was used from the 1840s until the mid-20th century. Those telegrams were delivered by “telegraph boys” most employed by WESTERN UNION.

Many living today have never seen or received a telegram.

In addition to posting on Song Lyric Sunday I am also participating in a 30-Day Quiz Coach4aday Challenge. Today the test is on parts of a computer. If you want to take that quick exam, go to the Day 19 Quiz Link

My song choice is from 1968 and titled “Hey, Western Union Man” performed by Jerry Butler. The song was written by Butler, Kenny Gamble, and Leon Huff.  Butler was often dubbed the “Ice Man”. He received that nickname because one of friends thought he was so cool.

Butler has had numerous hit songs go platinum during his career, including “For Your Precious Love” with The Impressions (1958), “He Will Break Your Heart” (1960), “Moon River” (1961), “Never Gonna Give You Up” (1967), “Hey Western Union Man” (1968), “Brand New Me” (1969), “Only the Strong Survive” (1969), and “Ain’t Understanding Mellow” (1973).
