This week for Song Lyric Sunday our host Jim Adams has given us the prompt of Disgust, Embarrassment, Guilt, Regret, Remorse.

The goal is to take the prompt and profile a song that has it part of its lyrics or title.

Please consider carving out time to read the posts of other bloggers who responded to the Song Lyric Sunday challenge.

Guilty

My song for today is “Guilty“.

Since 1980 Randy Newman has pretty much written “spec songs“. You give him a movie or TV show and he writes a song about it. Yet prior to that he wrote songs for himself and songs that often got covered by others. That was the case in 1973 when he wrote “Guilty”, and it got recorded by Bonnie Raitt. This song was part of her third studio album called “Taking My Time“.

Raitt hired Lowell George as the producer, but she became frustrated and replaced him with John Hall. George did bring members of Little Feat to the album. Playing on this track are Bill Payne on keyboards and Paul Barrere on guitar and background vocals.
