#SongLyricSunday Darkness January 17

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has given us the prompt to write about a song that is DJ. What that means is a song that begins with either the letter DJ or an artist with those letters.

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.  Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

I decided against using a D or J for an artist and went with D in a song. The tune I selected is “Darkness” performed and written by Tab Benoit. Personally I am not in a dark place but I realize many others are not as fortunate.

My favorite genre of music is the blues and Benoit is a fantastic singer/songwriter. I am not great at labeling artists but there is no denying that his style is Cajun influenced for a good reason. He lives in Houma, Louisiana and many of his song titles and lyrics depict that culture.

If you want to listen to talent on the Fender Telecaster Guitar check out Tab Benoit. If you want to dream about cruising with blues artists Tab Benoit is scheduled to perform October 24-31, 2021 on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale on Holland America ms Eurodam

Here are the lyrics to Darkness

Here is a live performance of Darkness by Tab at the 2019 Telluride Blues and Brews Festival

My prayer today is if you happen to be in bad place you will find a song that lifts you out of DARKNESS.
