Today’s Coach4aday post is on a term I discovered called SKYLARKING. Simply put it is “indulging in horseplay”.

Last week I wrote about Newsletters and on cue the Leadership Freak Newsletter authored by Dan Rockwell discussed the concept of having some foolish fun at work.

Ideas about Skylarking

Dan Rockwell in that edition of his newsletter offered up ten suggestions or ideas about the value of Skylarking. Listed below are my three favorites.

#1 Put the act of “Skylarking” on your calendar.

If busy meant getting things done, to-do lists would be short. But the busier you are, the more you have to do.

#2. Do something playful every day.

#3. Develop an unhurried attitude.

Don’t run around doing things. Quickly reject what doesn’t matter by knowing your goals and values. Does this matter? How does this activity take me where I need to go? When you’re sure you’re doing what matters, forget the noise and have fun doing it.

Schedule time to walk in between meetings

Final Thought

If you want to practice an unhurried life might want to heed the advice of a championship basketball coach.

John Wooden had a fabulous quote “Be quick, but don’t hurry.”

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
