#Reputation August 22

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

In John Maxwell’s book “25 Ways to Win with People” his # 6 tip is “give others a REPUTATATION to uphold”.

here are so many examples where this technique is effective.

As parents and grandparents we get to inspire, motivate, and challenge our children and grandchildren. In doing so we are giving them a REPUTATION to live up to. We also heap praise on them when they accomplish something that is on that pathway.

Sometimes in the business world leaders will wait until one of their team members has achieved some milestone before they do any inspiring, motivating, or challenging. I say that is a mistake. The best leaders search out what they believe someone can become. They have wisdom to focus on someone’s potential.

To tap into the power of giving someone a REPUTATION to uphold you have to build a relationship with that person. When you invest your time in people you stand a pretty good chance of making them feel valued and important. When that emotion is created in someone they don’t want the REPUTATION you have given them to be tarnished.

Think about someone today that you have a relationship with that needs you to elevate their REPUTATION. Then go focus on his/her potential or their unique talents and gifts and let them know about it.

People in your family, church, business, or team achieve more than they thought possible when someone else believes in them. Lift someone up today and let that be part of your REPUTATION.
