September’s 30 Day #Coach4adayChallenge is to profile a biography on someone. Today it is on the leader who created a model for QUALITY in all types of human endeavors. Today is also Labor Day which means many people have the day off. Tomorrow they will be back to doing high QUALITY work.

Many have heard of the “80/20 Rule” in short that rule states that 80% of our results are obtained by 20% of our efforts. Joseph Juran is credited with taking the work of an Italian Economist, Vilfredo Pareto and expanding it and making that principle part of modern day management and QUALITY.

Juran lead a fascinating life. He was born in Romania in May1904 and died in February 2008 at the age of 103. He was writing his memoirs at age 92 and completed it at age 99. Oh for the record his wife of 81 years died at age 103 also. He made many contributions to the field of QUALITY management including his book QUALITY Control Handbook. This publication was first released in 1951, and is still the standard reference work for QUALITY managers.

I found a YouTube video on the history of QUALITY and the man that impacted how we define it.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
