Sitting at a DESK makes me happy.

I am not siting there all day, just for the first hour of my day. I review my daily planner, do my morning devotion, craft a handwritten note, write in my gratitude journal, and grade the previous day with a fulfillment score that I enter on a spread sheet. Of course I write at least one draft blog post and edit my message to each day. That time at the DESK is a series of daily habits that bring me happiness.

My work desk at home

People will quiz me on how I have posted daily since 2014. My response is it has become an automatic part of my life. Even when I travel and am away from home I still need to go thru my morning routines.

Habits sometimes get labeled as boring. Sitting at my DESK some mornings I admit I am not filled with enthuiasism or creative ideas. When I get in that chair and look at my planner I see that I have prioritized each habit. I don’t remove myself until all are completed. Once I physically start checking off a habit as complete for the day my mood changes.

Increasing our wealth comes from saving more than we spend. Elevating our happiness comes from making small deposits each day. Sitting down with my list and completing each habit builds momentum for the rest of my day. After one hour I am often headed to the golf course often in a fantastic state of mind.

Mahatma Ghandi has a fabulous perspective on the role of habits.

My DESK each morning is a place that helps the rest of my day become happy.
