Receiving an honorary degree is quite an honor. In 1997 I had one bestowed to me by a MD. It was for LAMAZE.

For those that may not know my degree was for assisting with a method of childbirth. I was helping my wife with exercises and breathing with the intent to bring her pain relief without drugs. We have five children and as a couple we went thru this each time. For the record my wife was doing most of the work. Most expectant couples take a LAMAZE class together and many OB-GYN doctors look upon the father as a potential fainting case in the delivery room.

I actually know of a former college basketball coach who fainted in the delivery room. He hit his head and was knocked unconscious. The hospital was full and they placed him in his wife’s room. When his in-laws arrived at the hospital they immediately went to their daughter’s assigned room. They were shocked so see him lying in her bed. Lets just say they were confused on many levels and for the record he does not have an Honorary Degree in LAMAZE.

There have been many magical moments in my life. Getting to witness the birth of all five of my children is a ‘happy place” for me. LAMAZE classes let me be part of something wonderful that I will never forget.
