Today for the 30-Day Movie Coach4aday Challenge I watched a movie titled “DICKIE V

This film is available on ESPN+ and was released in July 2022 and runs 80 minutes.  It chronicles the remarkable life and career of Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Vitale.

Connections

Reasons for wanting to watch this movie involved a number of connections Dick and I have. The first is pretty simple he and I are both from New Jersey. Dick grew up in East Rutherford and I in Morristown. His hometown is often referred to as the Meadowlands.

As a High School coach his 1970 East Rutherford team defeated the defending 1969 State Champions Mountain Lakes HS in the NJHSAA Semi-finals. East Rutherford had Les Cason and Mountain Lakes had Andy Rimol. Mountain Lakes was in Morris County (NJ) where I grew up.

Finally in 2005 I had the privilege to introduce Dick Vitale during the UNC Pembroke Distinguished Speaker Series. The photo below shows up both on stage at the Givens Performing Arts Center at UNC Pembroke. He was a genuine guy and autographed a book he wrote called “Dick Vitale Living a Dream”. He also spent time backstage with two of my sons before he went out to speak.

Dickie V is a great film that takes you thru all the twists and turns his career has taken. Also, a great tribute to the work he has done for others. He has been a dynamo in raising money for Cancer Research.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
