For September I am participating in the 30-Day Literary Lesson Coach4aday Challenge today the focus is on PRAISING.

If you want to read about a remarkable leader who is in his 80’s take a look at the life of Dr. Ken Blanchard. I consider him a leadership guru and the author of some great books. One of those influenced me greatly.

Ken was born in Orange, New Jersey and raised in New York, Ken received his master’s degree from Colgate University and his bachelor’s and doctorate degrees from Cornell University.

His website is called kenblanchardbooks.com

Literary Lesson-The One Minute Manager

Catching people coming up short or making mistakes is not very difficult. Many experts agree it just might be a default setting our brains have. In the book The One Minute Manager the author challenges leaders, coaches, and parents to take on a different approach.

This book is a concise, easily read story that reveals three very practical secrets: One Minute Goals, One Minute Praisings, and One Minute Reprimands.

The concept of PRAISING is to “Catch People Doing the Right Thing”.

Blanchard defined this technique as One Minute Praising. Here are some examples:

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
