Today for the 30-Day Musial Instrument Coach4aday Challenge the post is going to feature the PIPE ORGAN.

The pipe organ is a musical instrument that produces sound by driving pressurized air through the organ pipes selected from a keyboard. Some of those keyboards can get quite elaborate.

Pipe Organ Keyboard

Because each pipe produces a single pitch, the pipes are provided in sets called ranks, each of which has a common timbre and volume throughout the keyboard compass.

Notable Pipe Organs

The Guinness Book of World Records recognized the Midmer-Losh as the largest in the world.  The first one installed was at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Some of its other records include largest pipe organ ever constructed, largest musical instrument ever constructed, and loudest musical instrument ever constructed, and holds several records in the organ world.

On the website Classical Music I located an article on “Six of the Best Pipe Organs in the World“. One interesting entry is the one located in Philadelphia at the Lords and Taylor Store. Listening to that instrument is limited during the holiday season in November and December. Here is a link to info about their 2022 schedule of events.

Components and How It Works

One tidbit from this video of how the Salt Lake City Morman Tabernacle Organ works is there was a moment in world history where the clock and Pipe Organ were considered two of the most complicated inventions.
