Today’s contribution to the 30-Day Musical Instrument Coach4aday Challenge is on the GUITAR.

While working at UNC Pembroke I became friends with work colleagues that knew way more about music than I did. Three that come to mind were Khary McGhee, Roger Killian, and Steve Martin.

Steve in particular was a fan of great guitar players and educated me on artists that I have never heard of before including Jimmy Thackery, Joe Satrini, Tommy Castro, and Joe Bonamassa. He would loan or burn me CD’s of these musicians and I became hooked especially on Joe Bonamassa.

Sounds of Joe Bonamassa on Guitar

What Bonamassa is known for his expertise on the electric guitar, but he has a collection of many including acoustic. Want to see just how big of a collection click here. When you get to the video below you can see what part of his aggregate, he brings on stage.

Joe Bonamassa playing on the acoustic guitar is not common. This makes it special when you can find a track on YouTube.

My favorite song of his is “Athens to Athens” and it features him on acoustic.

In this video the artists include Gerry O’Connor (Irish Banjo and Fiddle), Mats Wester (Nyckelharpa and Mandola), Arlan Schierbaum (Harmonium, Accordion, Baby Piano and Glockenspiel), and Lenny Castro (Percussion). Each of these musicians could be classified as virtuosos in their own right. The piano solo is fantastic.

This video was recorded “Live at the Royal Albert Hall”-Do yourself a favor today listen to a guitar being played the way Joe B does. Genius is all I got!

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
