Growing up in New Jersey we didn’t have any majestic MOUNTAIN peak. Living in South Carolina and North Carolina got to see much more.
High Point is the summit of Kittatinny Ridge in New Jersey and checks in at 1803 feet high. Moving to North Carolina I learned that the highest peak is Mount Mitchell. It is the highest MOUNTAIN east of the Mississippi. South Carolina’s highest elevation is Sassafras MOUNTAIN, and it is 3,553 feet above sea level.
Today I am writing this post from a mountain top (elevation 5,000 ft.) overlooking Maggie Valley NC (elevation 3,020 ft).
Wyoming’s Highest Elevation
My entry for the 30-Day State Trivia Coach4aday Challenge is to report on the highest MOUNTAIN peak in the state of Wyoming. When it comes to elevation Wyoming has 37 peaks that are over 10,000 feet tall. You can find a list here.
The tallest MOUNTAIN peak in Wyoming is Gannett Peak. Surveys often find native Wyomingites answering that the highest point in the state its Grand Teton. It is 34′ feet smaller than Gannett. Gannet Peak stands at 13,804 feet tall and Grand Teton at 13,770′.
Surrounded by ice fields from two different glaciers Gannett Peak is not easily accessible by car. If you want to see images go to this link.
Found a pretty good blog on a recent expedition that detailed climbing Gannett Peak.
