#Mandible December 12

For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the MANDIBLE.

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify Your Choice

The mandible is curved and shaped much like a horseshoe. It has two borders.

Purpose

It is the largest and strongest bone of the face.

It forms the lower jaw and acts as a receptacle for the lower teeth. It also articulates on either side with the temporal bone, forming the temporomandibular joint.

Location

It is commonly referred to as the lower jaw.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
