For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the RADIUS

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify Your Choice

If there is one bone a number of children seem to fracture it is the Radius. Some statistics state that 40% of all childhood factures occur with this bone.

Purpose

The radius helps you move your arm and wrist. When you injure your radius, it’s likely the muscles and nerves attached to it will be damaged, too.

Location

It is a long bone in each forearm. It lies laterally and parallel to ulna, the second of the forearm bones. The radius pivots around the ulna to produce movement at the proximal and distal radio-ulnar joints.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
