For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the LATISSIMUS Dorsi.

During this challenge, the participants select a bone or muscle in the human body, providing details about its location and physiological significance.

How the Challenge Works

  1. Identify one anatomical part of the body.
  2. Describe what its purpose is.
  3. Describe where it is located.

Identify Your Choice

My muscle choice today is the Latissimus Dorsi.

Purpose

This muscle extends, adducts and medially rotates the upper limb.

Location

It is a large muscle in your back. It’s commonly known as the “lats.” These muscles are broad and fan-shaped, covering the lower and middle part of your back. When you engage your lats, like when you pull something towards you or do a pull-up, you’re using the latissimus dorsi muscles. They play a significant role in various movements involving your arms and shoulders.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
