For December 2023, several of us are participating in the “30-Day ANATOMY Coach4aday Challenge.” My choice today is the ORBICULARIS Oculi.

Identify Your Choice
My focus today is on a small group of muscles. One specific one is Orbicularis Oculi.
Purpose
This muscle has 3 distinct parts -they are palpebral, lacrimal, and orbital. Each one controls a specific facial expression.
- Palpebral part – gently closes the eyelids.
- Lacrimal part – involved in the drainage of tears.
- Orbital part – tightly closes the eyelids.
Location
The orbicularis oculi muscle (in green below) surrounds the eye socket and extends into the eyelid.
