TOP BURGER PLACE

Sometimes serendipity strikes while you are just driving around a neighborhood. That occurred for me back in April while I was in Louisville, KY. I was checking out various college campus in various cities my wife were visiting. We called this trip VACTIONVILLE because in the span of a week we went to Knoxville, Cookeville, Smithville, and Nashville TN. After leaving Tennessee we went to Louisville and Jeffersonville IN. In each place we tried to tour college campuses we had never been to before. While in Louisville we decided to explore Bellarmine University.

As we drove to the campus I noticed a restaurant with a fantastic neon sign. The name of the place on the sign was Kaelin’s Restaurant. Apparently the official name is 80/20 at Kaelin’s. 80/20 represents the fat ratio in the ground beef.

So what can I tell you about this place other than it was the best CHEESEBURGER of my life. For starters it got its start back in 1934 in a Louisville neighborhood known quaintly as the Highlands. It is just a few blocks from Bellarmine.

The story goes in 1934 Carl and Margaret Kaelin decided to open a family restaurant. The restaurant became known as the “birthplace of the cheeseburger” serving the first version of this timeless classic for over 70 years. As are trip unfolded when we mentioned the name Kaelin’s Restaurant to anyone from Kentucky they told us “the cheeseburger place?” Our waitress also told us Harland Sanders himself cooked and sold his famous chicken out of the basement at this location before KFC became a thing.

I ordered my cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and ketchup.

Kaelin;s in Louisville Kentucky is my favorite BURGER place what location does everyone else have?

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
