This February 2025, several of us are participating in the 30-Day Philosophy Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we choose a quote or concept from a philosopher, past or present, and share it with others. Participating in this activity is actually sharing wisdom with others. My philosopher choice today is ADAM SMITH.

My choice today of Adam Smith will find him referred to as the Father of Modern Economics. He authored two well-known books titled The Theory of Modern Sentiment and The Wealth of Nations. His groundbreaking work in writing and explaining free markets, division of labor, and the invisible hand are still relevant today. Not just an economist he wrote about the philosophic implications of moral considerations including ethics. He was a capitalist that believed individuals pursuing new ideas and concepts does benefit society.

Philosophy 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines

  1. Identify your choice of philosopher, and, if necessary, offer up a brief bio on that individual.
  2. If you need help here is a link to some famous philosophers
  3. Provide the quote or concept that is attributed to this philosopher.
  4. If sharing with others use the #Coach4adayChallenge

February 20th Philosopher–Adam Smith

From 1751 to 1764 Smith was a professor and chair of moral philosophy at Glasgow University. After leaving academia he became the Commissioner of Customs and lived in Edinburgh until he died in 1790.

Goodreads provided me plenty to choose from in selecting an Adam Smith quote. Could not choose just one.

Every man lives by exchanging.

Individual Ambition Serves the Common Good.

No society can flourish of which the greater part is poor and miserable

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
