Visiting a LIBRARY can change your life.
One of the my first great possessions was a card to the Morristown NJ LIBRARY. Growing up in Morristown NJ in the 1960’s there were lots of neat things to do in the summer when I was in grade school. Going to the Burnham Park Swimming Pool, Double Matinee Movies at the Community Theatre for .50, and having a LIBRARY card.
The library opened up many new worlds to me especially in the summer when my mom had an expectation I read a book a week. I remember one summer reading the entire 24 volumes of the Chip Hilton series by legendary basketball coach Claire Bee. I never knew what a rich history the library in my hometown had until I began doing some research for this post.
In Morristown NJ services have been available since 1792. The first circulating library consisted of 97 members and 96 books. The Morristown Library Association was formed in 1812 and by the middle of the 19th century the facility had grown to several thousand volumes. The LIBRARY I went to was built in 1917 and was located at 1 Miller Road. It is on the corner of South Street just three blocks from the Morristown Green. It is still there today.
Over the past two hundred years the Morristown LIBRARY has undergone some changes to say the least. For that matter so have many others.
There are many “Life Lessons” contained on the shelves of a LIBRARY. Today many of those books can be checked out online. When you decide to visit a LIBRARY you just might be changing your life.
