Working REMOTELY is definitely not a new event for 2020 but its growth around the world has been exponential this year.
When I think of the word REMOTE as a retiree it immediately takes me to the television or cable box.
I was stunned to learn that REMOTE controls for TV’s have been around since 1950. The catch was they were not cheap. My house was probably no different than most homes in America during the late 1950’s and 1960’s it did not have a TV REMOTE. If you wanted to view another channel you got up and changed it manually by turning a knob.
I found a fascinating article on the history of TV REMOTE controls. The article profiles 10 different TV REMOTE controls. For the record I have never seen any of them.
I would be curious if any of the readers remember some of the early ones with names like “Lazy Bones”, “Flash Matic”, and “Space Command”.
REMOTE controls have worked with wires, light, sound and radio waves. During the pandemic I am quite certain the REMOTES have been getting a workout.
