#Annointed March 7

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

In just about every profession or competitive field there appear to be people early in the race that have been ANNOINTED as the winner.

They receive this designation from the media, the experts, the handicappers, people in the know, insiders, outsiders, and prognosticators. They are the sure bet or they are the top seed. Sometimes that bet doesn’t pay off for the one that is ANNOINTED.

This is a story about a man who was ANNOINTED who was very smart, blessed as a media darling by the NY Times, worked at Harvard, highly educated, revered by the Smithsonian museum, received a grant from the government to make sure he was the first to succeed, and he was connected to all the brightest scientific minds. He was going to be the first to achieve something wonderful for the betterment of mankind. He was ANNOINTED to be first.

His name was Scott Pierpont Langley.

He had it all except one thing. He lacked passion for the project. He was in it for the money, notoriety, and the fame to be the first. He lost out to two brothers who had a dream to be first, but no outside support, and were not college educated. They were consumed to succeed but were not ANNOINTED by the experts.

Those two brothers were from Ohio, Orville and Wilbur Wright. They are created with the first manned airplane flight. It was suppose to be Scott Pierpoint Langley who was going to do that.

Langley was the ANNOINTED one by just about everybody but when he wasn’t first to fly he quit trying. He might have been able to advance the Wright Brothers concept but he did not have the passion to carry on.

We need to remember that all the resources and all the experts ANNOINTING us doesn’t do much without passion. We all need a why.
