For October 2023, I am participating in the “30-Day 30 Words Coach4aday Challenge” where the topic today is on TRAVEL.
October 24th Topic
Inspiration for what I might write a blog post about often comes from reflection. Sometimes I just sit still waiting for an idea to come to me. If that doesn’t work, I will go back and review a previous post I crafted and see if I can elaborate or improve with something new.
For today it was the technique of reading a past post that trigger the topic. On June 26, 2019 I wrote about how travel provides us experiences and perspective.
For people who are dreaming about retirement travel becomes an activity they cannot wait to do more of. Not sure it is prudent to wait until you stop working to fully enjoy exploring our world.
Every time I travel even if the destination is what many would consider local I try to see if I can have an experience that will broaden my mind or increase my gratitude. When I approach a trip in that way very seldom am I disappointed.
Last week I had to “travel” (walk) three blocks to my church. I was escorting my 6-year-old granddaughter for a Wednesday evening activity for children. Before we walked out the front door, I proposed a challenge for both of us. We were going to evaluate if we saw, heard, or smelled something interesting. My goal was to create an experience for her on that 5-minute stroll.
She told me walking past a stormwater drain that it smelled funky and she was correct. I stopped her a block from church and had her listen to a squirrel alarm call. After an explanation she understood that the squirrel could see us and was letting his fellow squirrels know we were in the neighborhood.
If we approach any trip with curiosity, we often can create a memorable experience.
