For October 2023, I am participating in the “30-Day 30 Words Coach4aday Challenge” where the topic today is on CREDIT.

October 25th Topic

Today’s topic can refer to different things. Credit is a term that defines what occurs when people are allowed to purchase goods or services using borrowed money. Three types of credit include revolving, installment, and open.

The definition I want to focus on has to do with reward and recognition.

Recognizing and giving credit to others as a leader is paramount if you want to have a cohesive and overachieving unit. Unfortunately, many talented and highly intelligent people fail at leadership because they want the light shined on them. Don’t know if societal influence and social media plays into this diminishing trait or not.

Throughout my career I have seen driven results-oriented individuals rise to positions of authority. They ultimately fail because of hubris. They don’t understand that giving away credit done in a genuine and authentic way elevate them long term.

If you are interested in learning more there are plenty of books on this topic including “The Power of Giving Away Power” by Matthew Barzun.

The more you shine the light on others the harder it becomes for you to be obscured in darkness.”
