Today’s #Coach4aday post is on the mood-altering power of a SUNRISE.

If you watch TV you probably had seen commercials for drugs like Rexulti and Flouxetine. They laud their ability to change your outlook, emotions, and mood. What if Mother Nature offered up something for free. Well not actually free you will have to give up morning sleep to watch a sunrise.

Can Viewing the Morning Sky Improve Our Mood?

Yes, watching a sunrise can improve your mood. The experience of watching a sunrise can be awe-inspiring and beautiful, and it can evoke feelings of happiness, gratitude, and peacefulness. The picture below is one I took last September at Surf City NC

The colors of the sunrise, the gradual appearance of the sun, and the changes in the sky and landscape can be mesmerizing and create a sense of wonder and tranquility. These impact our brain by releasing neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin can also contribute to an improvement in mood.

In fact, studies have shown that exposure to natural environments, including sunrises and sunsets, can have a positive effect on our emotional well-being. It can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and increase feelings of happiness and vitality.

Therefore, if you are feeling down or stressed, taking a few minutes to watch a sunrise can be a simple yet effective way to lift your spirits and improve your mood. You don’t need a prescription just catch a view of the sun each morning.
