Today for the 30-Day Movie Coach4aday Challenge the prompt was favorite DOCUMENTARY.

Sometimes walking 18 holes on the golf course you receive advice, suggestions, or tips on a wide variety of topics from your playing partners. This happened in 2020 when my friend Carey Read told me about documentary film called “The Social Dilemma”.

The movie is 90 minutes long and I watched it on Netflix. When people feel that they might be part of on an intentional act of manipulation it is usually not a pleasant experience. Watching the Social Dilemma which starred former employees of companies like Twitter, Instagram, Google, and YouTube I got that feeling.

Synopsis

What caused the nausea was an explanation of the business model of the Internet’s most popular platforms. The core of that model is social media tracks our online behavior in order to sell targeted ads. Those ads and other techniques are attempting to finds ways to keep us engaged longer on our devices.

Adding to this movie was the experience and credibility of the social media insiders.

Curious on how when you do a search for a product it always produces ads on that product, or about the impact of social media on young people, or how psychology is being used to drive consumer behavior? Then watch The Social DILEMMA for insight.

Here is as trailer on the film.
