Rocking Roll Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu

Full disclosure this is the longest song title I have ever chosen.

Most people me included might think this song was first recorded by Johnny Rivers in 1972 but that is not correct. Let’s talk about Johnny Rivers whose given name is John Henry Ramistella. He was born in New York but moved to Louisiana specifically Baton Rouge as a young boy. He was influenced by the sounds of the Bayou State. Johhny Rivers turned this song into a hit in 1972 but he is on a long list of people who have covered this song.

Rocking Roll Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu was actually first recorded Huey “Piano” Smith in 1957. He has a long musical resume including playing piano for Little Richard. Smith from New Orleans was playing clubs at the age of 15. He is still alive today at the age of 88.
