This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday for has given us the prompt of Begin/End/Finish/Start. My Sunday routine begins by editing my post, heading off to church and then come home for a tiffin (30 Day Vocabulary Challenge).

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

The song I choose this week is a 1981 hit from the Rolling Stones called “START ME UP”.

The song was on their album “Tattoo You”The Stones made an American concert tour under the same name in 1981.

The song took on a new life in 1995 when Microsoft used the song as part of big promotion. It was reported they paid 10 Million for the rights to the song.

On October 9th 1981, the Rolling Stones’ ‘Tattoo You’ tour made a stop at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. Opening for the Stones at this concert was Prince, who was dressed in bikini briefs and a trench coat, his performance lasted 15 minutes due to extreme booing and the crowd’s throwing of beer cans. Sometimes an audiences doesn’t recognize talent do they.

The Stones first recorded START ME UP at the Some Girls sessions in 1977. Those sessions took place from October to December 1977, and from January to March 1978, at Pathé Marconi Studios, in Paris, France.

Geraldo did an interview with the Rolling Stones in June 1978 shortly after that time period.

With START ME UP it actually took two takes, they recorded it with a reggae beat a bunch of times in the 70’s, but didn’t like the result. They put it away until four years later, when they needed a song for Tattoo You LP. They went back to the second take and reworked it for the album.

The song was written by both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Here are the Lyrics

Here is the 1981 video of START ME UP.

Hope your Sunday has a great start and ending.

This is a great song – love it!
I was amused by Mick Jagger’s outfit in the video I played. He looks as if he is on the way to a yoga class – years before anyone was going to yoga classes 😀

I think this will be a very popular song today Dan, great choice. The Rolling Stones didn’t play at Woodstock because Mick Jagger was in Australia that summer, filming a forgotten movie called ‘Ned Kelly.’

  3. Always reminds me of going to a pro basketball game. Awesome for pumping everyone up! ☺️
