For Day 19 of the 30-Day Ingredient Coach4aday Challenge I am learning about NABS.
Growing up in Northern New Jersey not too far from New York City my definition of breakfast might be defined as continental. Breakfast consisted of cereal, oatmeal, English muffin, and juice. Sundays before church might see eggs and bacon but that was my expectation of breakfast when I went off to college.
During my first week at East Carolina University, I was late for class and looking for breakfast on the go. Walking with a classmate he suggested heading to the snack bar alongside of Wright Auditorium. During my college days the entrance was across from the Rawl Building. What he ordered altered my perception of breakfast forever and introduced me to the unique culinary breakfast choices of the south. He ordered a pack of NABS and a Pepsi. Nabs are produced by the Lance Cracker Company.
At that ECU snack bar for the first time in my life I heard this new term to describe a food item. For many in Eastern North Carolina ordering a Pepsi and pack of NABS was apparently a perfectly suitable breakfast and that is what my friend did.
