Today for the 30-Day Sign Coach4aday Challenge I am talking about TABS. Specifically, those plastic tabs you see on bread.

First let’s set the record straight those tabs are actually called “bread tags“.

Purpose of these TABS

So just what is the story on these bread tags? Yes, they are designed to keep the loaf of bread tied off, but the color has purpose that can help you be a discriminating shopper. When you shop for dairy, you look for those products sell-by dates on the containers. When it comes to bread, rolls, or other baked goods there is a different technique. The key is you have to be able to remember the signs or colors to fresh bread.

Bread tabs come in different colors. Once you know the colors you will know what day the bread was baked and packaged. There are stores that use a different system but for the most part all the big supermarkets and chains use colors.

There are only five days because in the baking world Wednesdays and Sundays are days when many bakeries do not bake bread. The colors correspond to weekdays in alphabetical order: Blue (Monday), Green (Tuesday), Red (Thursday), White (Friday), then Yellow (Saturday).
