SUNDAY for me has many different purposes than the other days of the week.

The #Coach4adayChallenge this month is to share life lessons. My mom and dad demonstrated a life lesson about SUNDAYS for me. They made sure that our entire family had habits as it related to SUNDAY growing up in Morristown NJ.

We had church, often a visit to Danziger’s Bakery, and a family meal. That meal was often with my Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

When I retired in 2018 I began to realize that every day of the week had become Saturday except SUNDAY. When you don’t have to get up and report to your job the day has a weekend feel to it. Yet SUNDAY for the most part has felt the same to me before and after retirement. There are a number of reasons why.

  1. Attend Church-Have to admit that since March 2020 a number of practices of attending church have been altered but the truth is church and SUNDAYS are still connected.
  2. Family meal-It is a tradition that began early in my childhood. My family always seemed to be sharing a meal with someone on my mom’s side of the family or hosting someone at our house. Today my wife and I have a Sunday Dinner/Lunch with whoever can make it to our kitchen table. Sometimes it is just the two of us but more often than not one of our five children and their family is joining us.

3. Planning on a SUNDAY. This is a life lesson I got from a coaching colleague and friend named Don Meyer.

Consider joining this Coach4dayChallenge-just share a life lesson you have learned from someone else. My parents modeled how to live on SUNDAY. That was a lesson I am still applying today.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
