For October 2023, I am participating in the “30-Day 30 Words Coach4aday Challenge” where the topic today is STILLNESS.

October 7th Topic

Earlier this week I had an encounter with an 80-year-old man in a barber shop. Physically he looked 15-to 20 years younger than his chronological age. What took me back was his response when I complimented him on his robust physical appearance.

In response to the positive affirmation, the octogenarian I was conversing with expressed a complaint. He shared that his days were often filled with frustration, lacking peace of mind. He elaborated on his grievances, which included the constant preoccupation of meeting others’ expectations, leading to a racing mind.

Not knowing him well I attempted to bolster his mental state with additional compliments and suggestions about attempting to relax and be still. He shook his head and went out to take on the rest of his day.

30 Words or Less on Stillness

Daily we should all have a habit of finding a quiet space, sitting comfortably, and focusing on our breathing. Let go of racing thoughts, distractions, and worries.

Want to get better at this habit here are three suggestions:

  1. Search for resources on mindfulness meditation techniques and its benefits.
  2. Explore articles or studies on how stillness practices can improve mental health.
  3. Look for books by authors like Eckhart Tolle or Jon Kabat-Zinn that delve into the concept of stillness and its impact on well-being.

Don’t get to be eighty and look good but feel stressed out!
