We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday gave us the prompt of Devoted, Faithful, Honorable, Loyal, True.
For the entire month of September I am doing a 30 Day Daily Biography Challenge. Each day it requires you to write briefly about one individual. I am using Jim’s prompt to focus on either the artist or songwriter. So Jim is assisting me greatly with Song Lyric Sunday.
Please consider carving out time to read the posts of other bloggers who responded to the Song Lyric Sunday challenge.

It’s Matter of Trust
Billy Joel by one account has written and recorded 121 songs in his solo singing career. Here is a list of those tunes. Charting in at Number 86 is my selection today “It’s Matter of Trust”. This was the second song on his album called The Bridge. The song and album were released in 1986.
Rock stars sometimes have trouble with relationships and Billy Joel has had his share. He has been married four times with his second wife being Christie Brinkley. Brinkley not to be outdone has been married four times. Yet this song lyrics are all about what it takes to make a relationship last.
Lyrics
One, two
One, two, three, four
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will it’s just a question of when
I’ve lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire the more you get burned
But that won’t happen to us
‘Cause it’s always been a matter of trust
Now I know you’re an emotional girl
It took a lot for you to not lose your faith in this world
But I can’t offer you proof
But you’re going to face a moment of truth
It’s hard when you’re always afraid
You just recover when another belief is betrayed
So break my heart if you must
It’s a matter of trust
You can’t go the distance
With too much resistance
I know you have doubts
But for God’s sake don’t shut me out
This time you’ve got nothing to lose
You can take it, you can leave it, whatever you choose
I won’t hold back anything
And I’ll walk away a fool or a king
Some love is just a lie of the mind
It’s make believe until it’s only a matter of time
And some might have learned to adjust
But then it never was a matter of trust
I’m sure you’re aware love
We’ve both had our share of
Believing too long
When the whole situation was wrong
Some love is just a lie of the soul
A constant battle for the ultimate state of control
After you’ve heard lie upon lie
There can hardly be a question of why
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
But that can’t happen to us
‘Cause it’s always been a matter of trust
It’s a matter of trust
It’s always been a matter of trust
It’s a matter of trust
‘Cause it’s always been a matter of trust
Video
The song’s music video, directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced and conceived by Paul Flattery. This performance took place in the basement of a building on St. Mark’s Place in New York City’s East Village.
Joel’s then wife Christie Brinkley appears in the video holding their baby daughter Alexa. The song differs from most Joel songs in that it is based on electric guitar rather than piano. It is the only Joel music video that features him on guitar – a factor he cited for saying it was his favorite of all his videos.
Both Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney appear very briefly in the video; Starr is standing in the street outside a window, and McCartney leaning against a wall. For the record I saw both of them on the first take.
Here it is.
Next week the prompt is – Delightful, Pleasant, Sweet
Brilliant choice you can’t beat a touch of Billy Joel💜
