Today’s word for the 30-Day Quotation Coach4aday Challenge is SAND.

Watching the Master’s yesterday, it made me remember a past post on Augusta National about the material found in the 44 pristine bunkers on that golf course. It is called “Spruce Pine Sand” or “White Feldspar”, but it is actually quartz.

There are many life lessons that revolve around SAND. One great truth about it is found in the Bible – Matthew 7:24-26 where it is revealed that only a foolish person would build a house on it.

There is a great opening to a long-standing soap opera called “Days of Our Lives” that uses it as an analogy.

Day 8 Quotation

Sand is often used in teaching us how to overcome problems or to put life in perspective. Robert W Service is attributed with the quote I want to share today.

He was a British-Canadian poet and writer, often called “the Bard of the Yukon”. Service was born in England, lived in Canada but died in France. His writings provided us perspective on the challenges of life. His use of SAND in one quote illustrates that.

It isn’t the mountain ahead that wears you out; it’s the grain of sand in your shoe.

Take care of the small problems you can control versus worrying about what lies ahead.
